Sir Joseph Larmor (1857-1942), 14º Profesor Lucasiano de Matemática, sucesor de Sir George Gabriel Stokes (que en aquel entonces era considerado el científico más influyente en el mundo) y predecesor de Paul Dirac (Premio Nobel de Física, conjuntamente con Erwin Schrödinger, en el año 1933), fue el tutor del Profesor Kwan-ichi Terazawa (Decano de la Facultad de Ciencias de la Universidad Imperial de Tokyo), quien a su vez fue tutor de uno de los más reconocidos Matemáticos del siglo XX, el Profesor Tosio Kato, que fue tutor del Profesor Rafael Iório, quien por su parte fue tutor del Profesor Borys Álvarez-Samaniego.
