At the beginning of the 20th century, scientists such as #Einstein were busy reconverting the #classical physics of #Newton, while others such as #MaxPlanck, #NielsBohr, #Heisenberg, #Schrödinger and #LouisdeBroglie were sparking a scientific revolution with the birth of a type of physics exclusively applicable to atoms: #QuantumMechanics.
Although Einstein used quantum theory to explain the #photoelectric effect, which would earn him a Nobel Prize in 1921, an expression of the meaning of quantum mechanics soon began to emerge with which the German genius did not agree. The so-called #CopenhagenInterpretation abandoned determinism in favour of a #probabilistic vision. Today, our "scientist of the day" is a German man who was one of the key drivers of this probabilistic interpretation.
It's the birthday of #MaxBorn, the Quantum Physicist who believed that "God Plays Dice" ---
(Scientist of the Day - 11 December)
Born left his mark on various fields in physics, from relativity to chemical physics, optics, elasticity...
Under his care, celebrated figures emerged such as Heisenberg, #EdwardTeller, #RobertOppenheimer, #MaxDelbrück, #EnricoFermi and #WolfgangPauli, among others but Born was ignored by the Nobel Committee (lastly he got it in 1954 with #WaltherBothe).
